Florian online to watch!
Yesterday was the TV premiere for Der Brand (the brand). Florian's movie from 2010. SWR (thank you very much for that) has made it available to watch online. Not sure for how long, so if you want to see Florian and also check how is your German this is a great chance to do it. But don't worry, before you actually watch the film you can read the synopsis so you will have an idea about what is going on.
"On the way home after a dance event the 35-year-old Judith is raped by her dance partner. Following the advice of her lawyer, Valentin Stein (Florian)  perpetrates charges against the man, but gradually reimburse the destructive consequences of rape in her life: the thought of the crime and just punishment for the perpetrators inevitably take more and more space. The relationship to her own body gets broken just like the relationship with her longtime boyfriend, George. Than through a false statement of the offender, considered one physician and father, Judith's hope dies in a process that she pursued her goal on her own to do justice for. She observed the offender, forced encounters with him and his family. Struggling to balance her emotional, Judith will find an unusually and radical way to prove the guilt of the perpetrator. Brigitte Bertele director and writer Johanna Stuttmann tell straightforward and very consistently, which psychological and practical consequences are present in a rape victim's life. The fine line between a highly detailed psychological case study and a psychological thriller in which you participate with great suspense, they have succeeded there."_SWR

Dr. Meier for Florian's Birthday!

Today, it's Florian's Birthday!!! I have saved for this day an intro on his most popular role. For many, the childsh, hot, not correctly polite, Dr. Meier was the one who introduced them to Florian. No doubt, it is the one responsible for Florian's wide international success, in Europe, even before Niklas and Vincent. So this is a video to pay a little tribute to this so loved and so hated man, Dr. Meier (Florian) from German TV series Doctor's Diary.

I wish all the best for the main subject of this blog, Florian. That his talent and happiness be shared with all for many years still. Happy Birthday Florian! Alles gute zum Geburstag!! That all your wishes come true!

Bambi award 2011.

Florian in the red carpet (Pre-show livestream):

Bambi is Germany's most prestigious media prize (twitter biography). This year, it happened last evening in Wiesbaden (on Frankfurt surrounds, it's definitely another city to visit in the future). The winners are not only German artists, but also international artists. This year among those personalities were Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga (both performing on stage) and Gwyneth Paltrow who shared the stage with Florian presenting the Best National actress award. Just to remind you, Florian won the men's equivalent category last year for Vincent wants to sea (Vincent will meer). Florian still made one more stage appearance when he joined the cast and director Simon Verhoeven (of Männerherzen) to accept the Bambi for Best National film. Männerherzen und ganz ganz grosse liebe is still on theater and has won already an award. Told you I believed it was gonna be a success. Congratulations to the team behind and in front of cameras.
You can see below Florian and Gwyneth, Florian on red carpet (officially) and, finally, Florian holding his Bambi. :) There are more pics from the event in the internet, check the links in the end of the post. Since it's a very recent show, videos will come in the futre. For now, you have a video from winner's speech, Simon. Tks to MarcGretchen for uploading this. Ps: On the video, he tks to everyone involved on the project in the last 2 years and apparently leaves in the air a possibility for a 3rd sequence of Männerherzen. I am not sure, but I do think this is not happening. Let's see. That's it for now. Congratulations again to the winners and specially to Florian who has been collecting all the fruits (glory) from his hard work.

Measuring the world starts in Görlitz and ends in Ecuador.

Florian latest appearances show him dressed in XVIII-XIX century clothes. He is Carl Friedrich Gauss in  "Die Vermessung der Welt" (2005) (Measuring the world). A milionaire 3D production. The movie is an adaptation from the German's Bestseller "Die Vermessung der Welt" by German author Daniel Kehlmann. The book (translated to 50 languages) is a novel where two of the most important scientific figures, Alexander von Humboldt (naturalist - "father" of modern geography) and Gauss (mathematician - genius since age 5), will try to explore and understand the world with their different and particular methods. Here it'is a the book description from Amazon, where you can buy the book in German or English: "Toward the end of the eighteenth century, two young Germans set out to measure the world. One of them, the Prussian aristocrat Alexander von Hum-boldt, negotiates savanna and jungle, travels down the Orinoco, tastes poisons, climbs the highest mountain known to man, counts head lice, and explores every hole in the ground. The other, the barely socialized mathematician and astronomer Carl Friedrich Gauss, does not even need to leave his home in Göttingen to prove that space is curved. He can run prime numbers in his head. He cannot imagine a life without women, yet he jumps out of bed on his wedding night to jot down a mathematical formula. Von Humboldt is known to history as the Second Columbus. Gauss is recognized as the greatest mathematical brain since Newton. Terrifyingly famous and more than eccentric in their old age, the two meet in Berlin in 1828. Gauss has hardly climbed out of his carriage before both men are embroiled in the political turmoil sweeping through Germany after Napoleon’s fall."
The production started in Görlitz, northest of Germany, it's now in Klosterneuburg, near Vienna - Austria (4th-9th of November), then it will move to Berlin and finally Ecuador. The date of releasing in theaters is set for October 25th of 2012. Countdown has already started. There are lots of picutres of the film set in Görlitz, here you can have a look inside of a movie production. "Carl Florian David Friedrich Gauss Fitz" comes below. Do they look alike?

  Carl Friedrich Gauss (1777-1855)

Ps: if you are not familiar with Humboldt or Gauss, here are some of their knowledge that has affected humanity in some way.

The Pacific currents mechanism. One of them was named after Humboldt.

Tells history that Gauss at age of 5 deduced the formula for the arithmetic progression. Widely used these days and a "nightmare" for some students on high school.

Nowadays both are still strong in the academic world. In Berlin there is the Alexander von Humboldt foundation where future scientists from all over the world can have support to their researches. And the International and German Mathematical Union have created the Gauss Prize for outsdanding mathematic contributions in other fields. Great initiative.
Back to "Die Vermessung der Welt", there is a nice site in German where they  discuss the book and resume the chapters of it.  It's a school project: http://die-vermessung-der-welt.de/ Very interesting.

Have fun!
