Florian online to watch!
Yesterday was the TV premiere for Der Brand (the brand). Florian's movie from 2010. SWR (thank you very much for that) has made it available to watch online. Not sure for how long, so if you want to see Florian and also check how is your German this is a great chance to do it. But don't worry, before you actually watch the film you can read the synopsis so you will have an idea about what is going on.
"On the way home after a dance event the 35-year-old Judith is raped by her dance partner. Following the advice of her lawyer, Valentin Stein (Florian)  perpetrates charges against the man, but gradually reimburse the destructive consequences of rape in her life: the thought of the crime and just punishment for the perpetrators inevitably take more and more space. The relationship to her own body gets broken just like the relationship with her longtime boyfriend, George. Than through a false statement of the offender, considered one physician and father, Judith's hope dies in a process that she pursued her goal on her own to do justice for. She observed the offender, forced encounters with him and his family. Struggling to balance her emotional, Judith will find an unusually and radical way to prove the guilt of the perpetrator. Brigitte Bertele director and writer Johanna Stuttmann tell straightforward and very consistently, which psychological and practical consequences are present in a rape victim's life. The fine line between a highly detailed psychological case study and a psychological thriller in which you participate with great suspense, they have succeeded there."_SWR

Dr. Meier for Florian's Birthday!

Today, it's Florian's Birthday!!! I have saved for this day an intro on his most popular role. For many, the childsh, hot, not correctly polite, Dr. Meier was the one who introduced them to Florian. No doubt, it is the one responsible for Florian's wide international success, in Europe, even before Niklas and Vincent. So this is a video to pay a little tribute to this so loved and so hated man, Dr. Meier (Florian) from German TV series Doctor's Diary.

I wish all the best for the main subject of this blog, Florian. That his talent and happiness be shared with all for many years still. Happy Birthday Florian! Alles gute zum Geburstag!! That all your wishes come true!

Bambi award 2011.

Florian in the red carpet (Pre-show livestream):

Bambi is Germany's most prestigious media prize (twitter biography). This year, it happened last evening in Wiesbaden (on Frankfurt surrounds, it's definitely another city to visit in the future). The winners are not only German artists, but also international artists. This year among those personalities were Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga (both performing on stage) and Gwyneth Paltrow who shared the stage with Florian presenting the Best National actress award. Just to remind you, Florian won the men's equivalent category last year for Vincent wants to sea (Vincent will meer). Florian still made one more stage appearance when he joined the cast and director Simon Verhoeven (of Männerherzen) to accept the Bambi for Best National film. Männerherzen und ganz ganz grosse liebe is still on theater and has won already an award. Told you I believed it was gonna be a success. Congratulations to the team behind and in front of cameras.
You can see below Florian and Gwyneth, Florian on red carpet (officially) and, finally, Florian holding his Bambi. :) There are more pics from the event in the internet, check the links in the end of the post. Since it's a very recent show, videos will come in the futre. For now, you have a video from winner's speech, Simon. Tks to MarcGretchen for uploading this. Ps: On the video, he tks to everyone involved on the project in the last 2 years and apparently leaves in the air a possibility for a 3rd sequence of Männerherzen. I am not sure, but I do think this is not happening. Let's see. That's it for now. Congratulations again to the winners and specially to Florian who has been collecting all the fruits (glory) from his hard work.

Measuring the world starts in Görlitz and ends in Ecuador.

Florian latest appearances show him dressed in XVIII-XIX century clothes. He is Carl Friedrich Gauss in  "Die Vermessung der Welt" (2005) (Measuring the world). A milionaire 3D production. The movie is an adaptation from the German's Bestseller "Die Vermessung der Welt" by German author Daniel Kehlmann. The book (translated to 50 languages) is a novel where two of the most important scientific figures, Alexander von Humboldt (naturalist - "father" of modern geography) and Gauss (mathematician - genius since age 5), will try to explore and understand the world with their different and particular methods. Here it'is a the book description from Amazon, where you can buy the book in German or English: "Toward the end of the eighteenth century, two young Germans set out to measure the world. One of them, the Prussian aristocrat Alexander von Hum-boldt, negotiates savanna and jungle, travels down the Orinoco, tastes poisons, climbs the highest mountain known to man, counts head lice, and explores every hole in the ground. The other, the barely socialized mathematician and astronomer Carl Friedrich Gauss, does not even need to leave his home in Göttingen to prove that space is curved. He can run prime numbers in his head. He cannot imagine a life without women, yet he jumps out of bed on his wedding night to jot down a mathematical formula. Von Humboldt is known to history as the Second Columbus. Gauss is recognized as the greatest mathematical brain since Newton. Terrifyingly famous and more than eccentric in their old age, the two meet in Berlin in 1828. Gauss has hardly climbed out of his carriage before both men are embroiled in the political turmoil sweeping through Germany after Napoleon’s fall."
The production started in Görlitz, northest of Germany, it's now in Klosterneuburg, near Vienna - Austria (4th-9th of November), then it will move to Berlin and finally Ecuador. The date of releasing in theaters is set for October 25th of 2012. Countdown has already started. There are lots of picutres of the film set in Görlitz, here you can have a look inside of a movie production. "Carl Florian David Friedrich Gauss Fitz" comes below. Do they look alike?

Florian David Fitz - as Carl Friedrich Gauss Source: DNN online.

  Carl Friedrich Gauss (1777-1855)

Ps: if you are not familiar with Humboldt or Gauss, here are some of their knowledge that has affected humanity in some way.

The Pacific currents mechanism. One of them was named after Humboldt.

Tells history that Gauss at age of 5 deduced the formula for the arithmetic progression. Widely used these days and a "nightmare" for some students on high school.

Nowadays both are still strong in the academic world. In Berlin there is the Alexander von Humboldt foundation where future scientists from all over the world can have support to their researches. And the International and German Mathematical Union have created the Gauss Prize for outsdanding mathematic contributions in other fields. Great initiative.
Back to "Die Vermessung der Welt", there is a nice site in German where they  discuss the book and resume the chapters of it.  It's a school project: http://die-vermessung-der-welt.de/ Very interesting.
And here some links you might find interesting too:
Have fun!

Demystifying the "heartthrob" (Part 1).

Niklas and Dr. Meier (Doctor's Diary) has given Florian the status of "heartthrob". During Männerherzen promotion many interviews pointed him as a sexysymbol and the most "desired" man in Germany at the moment. However, his works are not only about "being the charming guy in the movie", even on those roles you see his qualities as an actor. Now, if you want to demystify his beartthrob role, you can do that by watching some of his past characters, like Herr Sauerland (Mr. Sauerland).
Jupp Sauerland is a federal agent in the Policial-Thriller, TV film, Amigo-Bei Ankunft Tod (2010) ("Death on Arrival"). Next monday, some will have a chance to see Florian playing Jupp as the movie will be on TV, ZDF, at 8:15 pm local time. If you are not in Germany or France, like me, there is a sneak peak here. Wondering why France?! The movie was released in this country in March of 2011-Amigo, la fin d'un voyage. This means french fans can watch the movie translated or with subtitles and probably even find it in some DVD store. For others interested, it is available in amazon for purchase, in German.

Synopsis: "Twenty years ago, Amigo Steiger was involved in an attack that killed a bank manager and his driver. He managed to flee to Italy and settled south of Naples, where he converted to agriculture and ecotourism. But the BKA - Federal Criminal Police Office - is still after him. Flush out the two officers on his farm. Gunfire broke out. A policeman was seriously wounded and Amigo escapes again. Convinced that he was betrayed, he returned to Hamburg to find his old friends, including Alexander Bosch, editor threatened with bankruptcy, Maxime and his wife, with whom Amigo once had an affair ... "
Interesting, no?! See more Florian as Jupp Sauerland below and in the photoalbum.

Doctor's Diary cast at the German TV award 2011 (Fernsehpreis).

Cologne, October 2nd, Doctor's Diary cast, Florian, Diana and Kai, attended the event where German TV awarded its best productions and actors/actress. This time, unfortunately, Doctor's Diary was not the evening winner on its category. The winner for best series was Weissensee. It's about two families living in East Berlin, they are quite contradictory, but connected some how. Sounds interesting. However, I do hope the doctor's series has a chance to restore the order by winning this again in the future. Definitely need Season 4 for that. There are more pics from the event coming out in the net, just check Doctor's Diary fanpage or facebook.

Today the German Comedy award will be showed on TV in Germany, RTL. The award was held last 18th in Cologne. Not LA, Potsdam maybe.

German movie Industry might be new to some of you. Maybe your first contact with it was via Florian. Others via some international successeful Geman movie such as Run Lola Run, Good Bye Lenin (my favorite), Downfall. Or, you might still have known the German actors, before the movies itself, from international productions, Til (In Enemy Hands), Daniel (Ladies in Lavender), David Kross (The Reader), Matthias Schweighöfer (The Red Baron), August Diehl (Salt), Diane Kruger (Troy). However, Germany has a long tradtion already in this business. In Germany is located one of oldest studios in the world, Studio Babelsberg. Next year will be its centenary, nowadays internatonal coproduction is the main goal for the company. Some of then were Oscar contenders and big blockbusters, Inglorious Basterds (where you can see most of the actors mentioned in here in action) and Valkyrie, with Tom Cruise, are examples. The "Three Musketeers" is one of its latest work, Til and Austriac Oscar  winning Christoph Waltz are on the cast. Florian, in one of the many interviews he gave during Männerherzen 2 promotion, said he doesn't want to go to LA to make films. The interviewer asked him if now with all the awards he got and all the success that came along, LA wouldn't be next. That was Florian's answer, he still says that great movies can be done in Germany, he wants to do more good films on his own country, on his own language. This is a respectable attitute I would say, but why not then Babelsberg prejects? International fans wouldn't complain, more Florian outside Germany without him leaving his homeland sounds good to me.
First time I heard about the studio I was inside the S-bahn on my way to Berlin, coming from Potsdam. Babelsberg is situated in Potsdam, Berlin surrounds, my home in Germany. My friend who also took me to see an exhibition about Chaplin, still in Potsdam, told me about the cinema tradition of the city and the studio. Potsdam has its name on history, if you know a bit of history you probably have heard about the city. It's a beatiful city full of Parks and peace. It's well known for its scientifc background, Albert Einstein Science Park, and the Prussian casttles, like Sanssouci. By the way, the palace gardens were my back yard. I lived right beside the main entrance. It's a beautiful place, I think the gardens are even bigger than Versailles, the University of Potsdam is in one of the other castleslocated in the park. Whenever you go for a visit to Berlin, make sure to include Potsdam and the Studio Babelsberg, if you are a hard fan of cinema. Speaking of it, if you want to go to a cinema in Germany, here is a tip, most of the cinemas have the movies translated to German, but few shows the original version. It's important, cause if you are just a beginer in German and go watch Shakespeare, like I did, might be a not so pleasure experience and Midsummer night's dream becomes a nightmare. And here is another tip, don't leave Potsdam without eating apfeltasche in any Bäckerei! yummy! Ops, if you are wondering how I ended up in Potsdam, I was a trainee at the Deutsches Institut für Ernährungsforschung (Dife). Wow, it's always funny to hear myself saying that, translation: German Institute of Human Nutrition.
Link for Florian's original interview here and here is the translation. And if you are interested in visiting the Studio, there are tours for tourists. Check here

Six years ago Florian was Malte in LiebesLeben (Love life). Get to know him.

Movie star "status" is something relative new for Florian. Before his current success on big screen, he constructed a solid career on television. His curriculum is full of works in series and films for German TV. Since he came back to Germany,  after graduating at the Boston Conservatory and spending some time in New York,  his name has being constantly listed to  inumerous local productions. Some of them gave him already awards for best performances in, "Verdammt verliebt" (Damn love) 2001, "Meine verrückte türkische Hochzeit" (My Crazy Turkish Wedding) 2007 and "Doctor´s Diary" 2009. The first one was the "Rising Movie Talent Award" and the other two, The Adolf-Grimme-Darstellerpreis.
Picking up one of his past roles, today, I introduce you Malte, from TV series LiebesLeben (Love life). He is a young Berliner who see himself in some trick situations, one night stand, adventure and conflict with best friend Edwin and of course the ex-girlfriend issues, all that presented to the viewers with a natural look and humor. The show is about realtionships and friendship, here is a description of it: "The path to true love has many side streets and even more blind alleys. The romantic comedy series "love life" is located between the heart and diaphragm. It is about the humorous moments of the sometimes desperate search for love, happiness and fulfilling relationship life to couples, singles, newly wed and fresh separate, and about the daily battles between man and woman, dish washing, sex and jealousy - a lot of fun!"

This series is availabe to watch online, but unfortunately only in German. I don't think it's gonna be out there for too long, we know how those things work, which sucks when you are outside the country that broadcast it. By the way, here is my protest: if you want to buy this DVD, or any other from a different country you don't have other option if not buy the equipament too. I'm in region 4 and Germany, Europe are in region 2. However, If you are somewhere on those areas and you have an interest on buy some of Florian's DVDs, you can go to http://www.amazon.de/. They send it to you wherever you are. But be aware that the DVDs are in German and according to the description on the website none of them comeswith subtitle.
Fortunately for others like me, some of his films and series are out there on the virtual world. Forgive us Film makers, actors, movie industry, but this is the only way for some. Here is the link for Liebesleben, it's one season only, with 13 episodes, from six years ago, 2005. Interesting look at Florian's past roles. See if you like it. I did, specially the friendship bond.

Fun at home: Männerherzen und die ganz ganz grosse liebe's premiere in Munich.

Bunte.de-Männerherzen

On September 14th, Munich recieved, with arms opened, the locals, Florian, Justus and Simon, for Männerherzen und die ganz ganz grosse liebe's premiere. This time, the event was more cozy. The actors and director were dressed casual and looked more relaxed since they were surrounded by friends and family. Fans who attended the premiere had the chance to chat with the cast and take pictures without the frenezie of a "Hollywood" production. It was definitely a party at home. There are some reports from fans who have watched the movie already, they all have different opinions, this makes us more curious about the movie I would say. Only watching it to have yours. Thus, those outside Germany  will have to wait a bit longer, but if you are in there now don't miss the chance. Some videos, from the premiere, are below and here a photo gallery from the premiere.
More TV shows to come for Florian,  still talking about the movie, but future projects are being discussed already. Post and Pre production are set for Florian, interesting films on the way for our delight.

In the first interview they answered questions about men's heart, women's heart and facebook. The second one they also had questions about relationships, nothing really new, about sex, girls. The funny thing were the test, Lie-truth. Florian was the last one and didn't do it after watching Justus getting an electrical chock. Scary!
